Sometime Today, USM Bish assembled some asciibets to say:

well, if you want the program to keep running, then bg is required.
otherwise, the program will just stay stopped.

on a related note, I've noticed a lot of people who come from MSDOS use
Ctrl+Z to close files/logins.  They even think it works.
