| Hi All,
|
| I have a assembled PC with intel 815 chipset motherboard. It has an
| inbuilt sound card . I have installed 7.1 but I could not able to
| configure the sound controller. Normally when I run sndconfig It says
| that one sound controller found and it enables the sound controller .

what is the name of sound card found by sndconfig? Any chance its
Ensonique? also do you hear the Linus's Linux-Speak-HOWTO in sndconfig?
if ans to above Qs is yes, then intel should have happily told u that
u have a Soundblaster 128pci on board.

| But actually if I run any player devide like realplay or xmms it gives
| error
| 1. You have the correct output pluggins selected
| 2. No other program is blocking the sound card.
| 3. Your sound card is configured properly.
|
| And in the /etc/modules.conf file I ave found the following entries:

That can happen due to other sound demons running.

|
| Since audio controller was giving unknown device so I tried to install
| ALsa driver for supporting this audio driver.
| I installed the following
| alsa-driver-0.5.11 alsa-lib-0.5.10b
| alsa-utils-0.5.10
|

good move! alsa has support for MIDI emulation which is good coz
i8x0 boards' soundchip doesn't have midi synthesizer. But remember, DONT
CHOOSE intel8x0 as card. i've found ens1371 works fine coz that's what
sndconfig autoprobed. Also there r many things 2 keep in mind before
installing alsa, biggest of which is 2 disable kernel level sound support
and load them as modules instead.

|
| So can anybody help me so that I can configure it properly.
|
| The result is same when I upgraded my linux from 7.1 to 7.2.

u didnt need do that.. acting like a windows user!
