Dear Suresh & Mukund,

Yes I recompiled the kernel with Framebuffer and now I
can boot in vga=788 mode with nice little penguine on
the console during the boot process.

I followed the commands such as:
tar xjvf /usr/src/kernel-source-2.2.19.tar.bz2 in a
directory such as /usr/local/src/
 after doing cd kernel-source-2.2.19/
I used:
make menuconfig
make-kpkg clean
fakeroot make-kpkg --revision=custom.1.0 kernel_image
As root, do dpkg -i
../kernel-image-2.2.19-custom.1.0_i386.deb

This was Debian specific and worked quite OK.
Now I want to know why there is no make mrproper, make
, make install , make dep etc. usual stuff.

Also some tips regarding kernel compilations that we
need to have symlink to source directory such as
linux --> kernel-source-2.4.5 why this symlink is
reqiured.

Also Linus's document README tells that do not use
/usr/src area as it has incomplete kernel header
files.
Can any body tell help me in clarifying this doubts?
I am going to compile 2.4.18 in MDK81 and Slack 8 so
pl. letme know if you have some tips.Anyway I am
reading the manuals at my end to get my fundas clear.

Regards,

Prasad
