If you leave no time gap for shut- down (viz. shutdown -h now) then usually it is a bit too late for you to get on to another console and type in the cancellation command (shutdown -c) ... by that time prob- ably the shutdown sequence has already progressed beyond recovery. The keyboard itself may be disabled by then ...
