yes i am able to login to the server using same login
and password

i have played with one thing ... i wanted to
start pop service on the server but cant get the
right files ( pop3d and impad ) on the server so copied
them in /usr/sbin/ and put the control file in
/etc/xinetd.d

and started the server .... nmap shows that
port 110 (pop) and 143 (imap) is open ...

as i hv transplanted these servers directly without
using RPM or make type of installation so i have doubt
that i may need to do some more configuration for
that ... and thats what my query is

what is the way pop authenticates its users .. ?

what r the file it uses for getting the information
about the users is it conventional /etc/passwd etc
or something else

do pamd have something to do with it ..?

pls give me some pointers to URLs that have
details for pop3 server installation

with regards

shubh
