dear friends
i am trying to replace my existing wu-ftp with proftp
for that i have done following steps
1. uninstall the existing wu-ftp using rpm -e
2. installed proftpd rpm in follwoig sequence
rpm -Uvh proftpd-1.2.5rc1-1.i386.rpm
rpm -Uvh proftpd-standalone-1.2.5rc1-1.i386.rpm
rpm -Uvh proftpd-inetd-mysql-1.2.5rc1-1.i386.rpm
3. now i added a proftpd file in /etc/xinet.d/ dir
and placed
service proftp
{
disable = no
socket_type = stream
wait = no
user = root
server = /usr/sbin/in.proftpd
server_args =
log_on_success += DURATION USERID
log_on_failure += USERID
nice = 10
}
in it . and then restarted xinetd
4 .now nmap shows that server is accepting connections
at prot 21 for ftp
but when i try to connect to server with ftp
it says
$telnet localhost 21
Trying 127.0.0.1...
Connected to localhost.
Escape character is '^]'.
Connection closed by foreign host
and connection gets closed
where i am making a mistake or what more i need to do
,pls point out
pls give some ponters to study more about instalation
process of pro-ftpd
