This works for me : cdrecord -vv -eject -pad dev=0,0,0 speed=8 <image> >(could it be because my drive is 24x - CDR are typically 16x >right?). Writing on a 16x CDR with a 24x cd-writer should not be a problem IMHO. My CD-Writer is HP9100 ( 4x - Rewrite , 8x - write , 32x - read ). I don't face any problems.
