Yes Sridhar. To draw an analogy I was looking for something
similar to the /v switch in copy under DOS which supposedly
verfied if what was written was OK. 
Looks like the option is not deemed necessary with CDRs because
it would be infructuous - I mean if its not readable its trashed
anyway - so why bother. not as if you can correct it.
I also found that mandrake 8.2 was shipping with a broken
version of xcdroast - i have uupgraded now, let me see. Thanks
all for the help.
