mysql offers a function called
encrypt()

check out if postgresql offers the same.

there are also other functions which u can use to store like
password()
md5()

try this out

select encrypt('mypassword') ;
similarly for other functions as well.

Subject: [LIH]passwords in database

|
| Helo LIST,
| what is the safest way of storing passwords in a database?
| The scenario is like this.
| I have a list of routers where i have to telnet
| occasionaly (using Net::Telnet perl module for that)
| I am currently storing the passwords in clear text format
| in the database (postgres)
| But i don't want to.
| IS there any way of avoiding this?
|
| Thanx,
|
