hi,

        u can go for both. I'm my LAN, i've configured transparent proxying using
squid and the destination NAT-ing feature in iptables. For few internal
users i've allowed to connect to our mail server outside our network by
using source NAT-ing in iptables. It all dpends upon ur requirement.
