Hi Listers,
Pl excuse me
I am resending the mail since I am doubtful about the receipt of my earlier
mail since the email address header was wrong
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
I am running a dual boot box (Win98 /PCQ Linux) Celeron 900 MHZ,128 MB RAM
40 Gig HDD.
I was running Linux for the past 2 1/2 years without any problem(thru RH
6.0,
6.1, 6.2, RH/PCQ Linux 7.1). I have configured 2 users with KDE as the
default desktop and GNOME as the desktop for root.

Today I wanted to install "Joe" from RH 6.2 CD for doing some light weight
editing. I logged in as root (Graphical login). Instead of GNOME it went
into
Failsafe mode, with only a terminal. I gave mount command. It said"command
not found". The same story was there for even simple commands like ls, mv ,
cp and all.

I could not even reboot the machine by giving reboot command in terminal.
Did
ctrl + alt + del. Then I tried to login as root choosing KDE desktop.
Monitor
simply blinked and came back to login screen. Went to pure CLI using ctrl +
alt + f2 and logged in as root. And that was all I could do, that is login .
Any command issued repeated the same old story " command not found".

Then I logged in as normal user,"srikanth". I could do all including
connecting to net, browsing, email etc. What has happened ? Can anybody
throw
light on this problem?

N S Srikanth
