I think your bash related files like .bashrc and .bash_profile might be
damaged. This might result in your $PATH variable not being set, so that
you can't find relevant commands.

Try this - login as a non-root user and then become root using "su",
without the minus. That way, you will have a working environment.
Otherwise, try executing the commands with the full path, such as "#
/bin/ls"

Sub : Recovering an accidentally deleted boot.b      LOST #292

The boot.b file along with chain.b and os2_d.b  are created at
the time of compilation of LILO. The options for recovery are:
a) re-compile and re-install b) Do a "lilo -V" and get version
number in use. Copy a boot.b of exactly the same  LILO version
from another box. c) Remove lilo and re-install from distro CD
