Never tried Redhat 7.2, but here's what ls says about /dev/dsp in my Debian
box.

[anoop@lonewolf:anoop]$ ls -l /dev/dsp
crw-rw---- 1 root audio 14, 3 Apr 15 2001 /dev/dsp

Which means that those users who belong to the group "audio" can have
sound. So add those users who you want to hear sound to the group "audio".
Hope that's useful in your case too.

/dev/dsp is a device file. Don't try to du it. (Same thing applicable to
files in /proc also)
