Is this a new installation ? It seems that your installation has not completed satisfactorily or is incomplete. init is the mother of all processes, and you can proceed no further. It seems that your /etc/inittab is either missing or corrupt. If yours is a new installation, please re-install with defaults. If you have valuable data in it, boot through a stand-alone linux distro, mount your root partition and write a fresh inittab. I am not very sure about the MDK set up myself ... some MDK type on our list could help here.
