I tried this, but it gave me "bind: Cannot assign
requested address"

I tried this too!! ... same result as above!
... and gives me the same error when I try to ping any
other machine in the subnet.
 
> if 1. fails - networking is down
> if 2. fails - you haven't got eth0 configured
> correctly
But if networking is down, then how are lo and eth0
shown as UP and RUNNING?? and if these are up and
running, then what could be my problem? 
This thing is driving me nuts!! :-)
