Something on the line of...

1)Locate your MTA using packaging system
2)Get the configuration file for the given MTA
3)Read documentation
4)configure and start the service?

May be Hiten is referring to maintaining users which in itself has not much to 
do with maintaining a mail server. Obviously you are going to need interfaces 
where user can say change password etc. But there are readymade web interfaces 
for everything out there, I suppose..

I knew suresh was going to pop up in this thread..;-) The omnipresent mail 
admin on LI*..
