Hi really Linux rocks in all the areas.and for u r requirement of limiting the user from dwnloading files ofmore than some KB squid IIRC squid offers all sorts of ACLs and u have specified that u r using linux iptables/ipchains firewall and users by pass squid. The best solution for u is Tranparent Proxying.u can make the client machines to use a proxy (squid) without their knowledge. by writing some simple rules in ur rc.firewall
