X4 in init string adds both busy signal and dial tone detection. I have a How-Do-I document on my home page on Hayes modem commands. http://geocities.com/usmbish/ Perhaps you may try setting your modem string to the default values and retry. This sets up most things to defaults: "AT&F E0 V1 &C1 &D2 X4 L3" > > o Did it work on any other Linux distro earlier ? > Yes, Mandrake 8.1/8.2, PCQL 7.1, RHL 6.1, Caldera > (PCQ) > Then there should be no great shakes. You have done it before. Hopefully there are no Pule/Tone dial problems here (often overlooked). Try and dial any number using minicom, after setting the above string, and if that works then things should work out fine for ISP dialing as well.
