If you use RedHat from the CDs, the experience is similar. Problems arise only when you try to install arbitrarily downloaded software in .rpm format from the net. And that too I think is because of the popularity of RPM and distros that use it. Though rpmfind.net is a valuable site to the experienced Linux user, it can be a real deterrent to someone who is just initiated into Linux and not really familiar with its many distributions and quirks.
