Yes u can use it both way....using Hardware called Internet Gateway.... It has features of WAN port in witch from your cable modem to this device using Rj-45 port u can connect to Internet Gateway. and share the connectivity to your lan or yr pc , and it has 4 Lan ports , it also has serial port , so with that u can attach yr dialup modem or ISDN TA , with this device u can also attach yr printer and u can share it with yr LAN.
If u don't want all this features then another option is only 1 Wan and 1 lan and 1 serial port is there with another device. so u can use dual connectivity as we can say redundancy to yr internet connectivity.
