Re :Problems on install of Oracle 8.0.5.0.0 on Debian Potato r3 (kernel v
2.4.19)

I installed Oracle 8.0.5.0.0 on my Debian Potato r3 box running kernel v
2.4.19.
I did the oiuncomp and all related procedures .All the steps (including
editing the
.ora file has been done).

When I tried to configure (ie ,
$svrmgrl
SVR...>connect internal
         > .......
         > &makedb
etc.

All files are created under $ORACLE_HOME/dbs .
Next when I run svrmgrl and startup (the server) ,
I get :

ORACLE instance started.
Total System Global Area 32 bytes
Fixed Size 32 bytes
Variable Size 32 bytes
Database Buffers 32 bytes
Redo Buffers 32 bytes
Database mounted.
Database opened.

instead of the documented :

SVRMGR> connect internal
Connected.
SVRMGR> startup nomount
ORACLE instance started.
Total System Global Area 4313312 bytes
Fixed Size 41876 bytes
Variable Size 4140364 bytes
Database Buffers 122880 bytes
Redo Buffers 8192 bytes
SVRMGR> @makedb
<loads of messages>
SVRMGR> exit

Please help.

Thanks,
Shyam.
