Even i am a relatively recent convert to Emacs (6 months maybe). i found 
Emacs-beginners-howto the best resource on the net.

Other than that i just have two advices. One emacs is a lot like linux
start using it for everything you do if you really want to learn it, i use it for 
mailing, IRC at times, coding and as a file manager. Two, if you get stuck (this a lot 
of people ask me) in emacs hold down the control key then press c and then press x to 
exit.
