I have recently put a transparent proxy server on Compaq server (1 GB Ram, 3x20 GB SCSI disk) for BSNL. The iptraf show a load of 3.5 MBPS. At present only one stream (out of six) is diverted to proxy. The CPU load is around 45%, and memory utilization is 700 Mb. When another stream is diverted the CPU load goes up to 95%.
