Even if you don't have framebuffer working still you can play the VCD in
console mode using the 'vesa' driver of mplayer.
mplayer -vo vesa -vcd 1
After downloading mplayer sources if you want to compile on your machine
than do
./configure --enable-gui
This will also compile the GUI of mplayer. However I still prefer the
command line mplayer :-)
The GUI of mplayer is gmplayer.
