My oracle was working properly, till someone accidently turned off the
server.
after i rebooted, i could not get the oracle dbserver started.

i tried the following commands

[oracle@mail oracle]$ sqlplus /nolog

SQL> connect / as sysdba
Connected to an idle instance.
SQL> startup
ORACLE instance started.

Redo Buffers                 667648 bytes
Database mounted.
Database opened.
SQL>

[oracle@mail oracle]$ sqlplus scott/tiger@ora

Copyright (c) 1982, 2002, Oracle Corporation.  All rights reserved.

ERROR:
ORA-12541: TNS:no listener

[oracle@mail oracle]$ nmap localhost

for some reason, oracle is not able to bind to its port thought it says, db
mounted and started.

what have I done wrong ?
