My server (RH AS 2.1) often gives a TOP output with system, user and idle all showing less than 1%. At this time the nice shows > 97%. Acco to man, this is the value of niced tasks (-1) and is distributed across user and system.
Hwever, this doesnt seem to be the case, and the system becomes very slow at this time. This could go on for several minutes. The system runs JRUN and Oracle 9i with 2 GB RAM of which 500MB is free. Any idea why idle goes so low for so long, and why nice is so high.
