hi It depends on the shell u r using. For bash2 just add this to your .bashrc file in the home directory. export PATH=$PATH:/usr/java/j2sdk1.4.1_02/bin Once you logout and login again..ur path to java will be set.
Or add to /etc/profile if you want all users to get this by default. Same goes for the CLASSPATH.
