This seems  a bit  odd, if  you have  created 3  primary and  1
extended having  numerous logicals  under it,  you cannot  have
space at hda4 since that would be the extended partition marker

And dmesg would give an output like:
Partition check:
 hda: hda1 hda2 hda3 hda4 < hda5 hda6 .... >

Very  unlikely. Every  distro  would  be having  its  numbering
scheme for uid:gid  nos. Except for "root" which  would be 0:0,
others are  likely to vary unless  you have taken care  to keep
same uid:gid numbers for the same username in both the distros.
So, except for  root write access between the  distros is going
to be a problem.
