Was it really? IMHO most of the time carrier detect fails because of the way our telecom dial tone is setup and by forcing blind dial using ATx1 or ATx0. As I said this is my experience although I am not a techie but I have been seeing this problem since era of win95 or before and ever since I moved to linux. Can guru's here explain the nuances??
