Hi:

I recently took a BSNL dialup subscription
and I find that the pppd settings that worked
with VSNL dialup, don't work with BSNL!

Does anybody have idea, how to correctly configure
ppp for BSNL dialup.

While talking to their overly helpful support staff,
they seem to know of windows settings only, where they
insisted, that I don't use Linux!

However, I tried dialing in from a friends machine
(a M$ windows) and found that any login and password
information, entered at the dialup screen leads to
authentication failure.

e.g.
my userid is : [EMAIL PROTECTED]
my passwd is : blr123

Additionally, if I just entered the fields in the
configuration settings, then a direct (apparently)
login happens after 2 beeps.

This experiment was undertaken to make sure that BSNL
indeed activated my account!

Calling up the BSNL office and talking to the sysadmin
proved to be of no help, however, he said that they
are using Windows machines for handling dialup accounts!

I will appreciate a response, in case somebody has
taken a look at this closely.

thanks
Tom.
