May be u deleted the fonts or it got deleted automatically...i have seen this 
behaviour of rh that it deletes the fonts when disk space is low  (long back).

Try installing the font packages from the redhat cd's.

 /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fs/config(RH 9) is the file which has the path to the fonts 
directories used by the font server.
Check if u have the files.....or else try installing them...

[EMAIL PROTECTED] vinu]$ rpm -qf /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/misc
XFree86-base-fonts-4.3.0-2

[EMAIL PROTECTED] vinu]$ rpm -qf /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi
XFree86-75dpi-fonts-4.3.0-2
XFree86-base-fonts-4.3.0-2
