afaik, the MX with the lower priority is tried only if the higher priority
MX is not available. In this case mail.sourceforge.net. I would try a simple
brute force method to point out the problem ..

ping lists.sourceforge.net

reply from .... 66.35.250.206

and ping mail.sourceforge.net

reply from .... 66.35.250.206 ..

does that mean both the primary MX and the lists server are on the same
machine ? if yes, then this might just be the problem. Sourceforge's primary
MX is heavily loaded and at times even simple pings time out (as it happened
with me), and at those times the lists.sourceforge.net is also not available
..
Maybe someone more knowledgeable should be able to point out the exact
problem.
