Try to upgrade kernel through redhat network using up2date. I always shows
an exclaimatory mark in uour panel if Your system is not updatesd. Current
version available through rhn is 2.4.20.19-9
You must register for rhn demo account first if you dont have one.
The difference is that the kernel from RH is gone through various tests
before release and is specifically for a particular platform (alpha, amd,
i386, i486, i586, i686).
It will take almost an hour on 56.6K dialup connection to do everything
fine. I did it just two days ago and mu system performance has improved. It
wont harm your system anyway.
