Switch to a wholesale KDE solution. KDE with 192 MB RAM is more than enough. 
KEdit/KWrite/KMail/Konqueror are easy enough and feature rich to use.

And migrating old data should not be a problem.

picture.  Hardly any sets of 10K words can be adequately        described with 
pictures.
