I use Evolution as a mail client, and to retrieve mails directly from
POP accounts. Nothing like fetchmail or anything else is used.

Now I need to format & re-install Linux, but before that I want to take
a back up of the mails. I have created a folder hierarchy within the
Inbox, and Sent Items etc... Also I would not want to loose my POP
settings and the Contacts in Evolution.

I cant see any export / save Contacts option either.

What files have to backed up precisely? Is it okay to tar the whole
evolution folder which exists in my /home/username directory and then
untar it afer installation? Or any other suggestion? I cannot risk
loosing my mails at all. and rebuilding the contacts list and POP
settings again will be too cumbersome.

On the other hand, I have kept /home on a separate partition. If I
format the partition which holds / and sub-directories except for /home,
and reinstall Linux, will the settings kept in home be taken back for
the user created in the earlier installation on the same partition?

Vishal.
