To upgrade your kernel to 2.4.22, you need to first apply the 2.4.21
patch before you apply the 2.4.22 patch.

Additionally, The incremental patches that are found at this site are
meant for upgrading "pristine" kernel sources. The redhat kernel source
is extensively patched. It would be better to download the entire
2.4.22 kernel sources from www.kernel.org and try again.

If you've saved a copy of your previous working kernel, things should be
fine.
