I've been using an Athlon XP 1800 processor with an Asus V333
motherboard (VIA KT333 chipset) and 256MB ram, exclusively
for linux, for over a year. I've kept the machine on for days at a
stretch (in an un-airconditioned room with ambient temperature
variations of 20-34 degrees centigrade) and have had no problems with
overheating, even with sustained cpu loads of 2-3.

People have reported problems with Athlon processor overheating, but in
most instances it occurs only when you use a heatsink that is not
recommended for the Athlon processor.

Regards,
Vinu.
