What is this 1.5 and 2 you are talking of?

Any way whatever it is, it should not matter unless you 
have problems with getting the initial grub screen and
booting the OS.

Linux will be always 'Uncontaminated by win98'.
Its only the boot loader that got overwritten when you
installed windows. Windows dont dare to touch linux.

/etc/modules.conf is the file which the kernel looks for
at startup and loads the appropiate modules. Remove the lines that 
causes the message.

Check the output of top,ps to see which process is consuming
memory.

Keep it as a last resort, there is no good reason to reinstall 
linux unless its really very serious.
