First of all your GSM phone has to connect to your PC through some
interface, this can be serial port, usb, infra red or blue tooth etc.

Once your hardware is connected and detected, you would then require the
application software to manage your GSM hardware and to send/receive SMS
through them.

May I get to know what GSM Phone are you trying to use right now ?
