Had that issue with my network card module in 2.6.2. Had to built it 
statically because slack init scripts couldn't find it dynamically. However 
that solved problem for me. Check out on those lines i.e. see what init 
script is goofing up...

Probably when distros start shipping 2.6.x by default, such problems should 
not arise..
