What is the Linux distro and version that you are using? From version of X I am assuming RH9+ / Fedora. Can you post the total /etc/X11/XF86Config file? Many earlier SiS cards have problems with XFree I hope you have checked your card is not one of them although from output it does seem to be ruled out. If you can lay hands on a knoppix CD try and boot that and compare your XF86Config with file generated there. Rebuild XF86Config using the configuration utility and try using driver=vesa and see if this works. And before making any edits keep backup copy of file so that you can try one thing at a time and not get all muddled up. I hope I am looking up the wrong road but I seem to recollect that fixed font is really not the problem. HTH -- Sudev Barar Learning Linux
