this might be useful:

Linux Kernel 2.4 Internals by Tigran Aivazian
latest copy at http://www.moses.uklinux.net/patches/lki.html
(easy read)

Understanding the Linux Kernel 2nd edition (covers 2.4)
by Bovet & Cesati (O'Reilly)
great book!

Linux Device Drivers 2nd edition by Alessandro Rubini and Jonathan Corbet
(O'Reilly)
Great book on device drivers, available FREE on the internet. must read.

finally, for the latest 2.6 kernel, robert love's book " Linux Kernel
Development" is recommended.
check out http://www.tech9.net/rml/kernel_book/

there are more but these will keep you hooked for a long time. i am
recommending these because i found them all quite useful.
