Nul is ASCII 0x0. Nul and '/' (ASCII 0x2f) are the only two characters
that cannot appear in a Unix filename.

Nul, because it is the "end of string" marker. /, because it is the
path separator.

Follow up question: What would happen if I did:

char *p = ""; mkdir (p, ...); ?
