AFAIK, 32bit kernel is designed to support a 32 bit microprocessor.
64bit architecture is seen thesedays in Itanium, AMD Opteron and
similars.
A book on microprocessors might help you in detail.
Not sure though, 32bit means the processor has support for
floating-point variables only upto 32bits.
