The username/password prompt shows that it is definitely script based and not simply PAP/CHAP. So wvdial in stupid mode is never going to work.
Remove the stupid mode line, and try again with wvdial. Show us the transcript, and the configuration file.
At BSNL.. the username/password prompts are not usable.. Stupid Mode is the way to go.
From wvdial.conf(5) : [...] Stupid Mode When wvdial is in Stupid Mode, it does not attempt to interpret any prompts from the terminal server. It starts pppd immedi- ately after the modem connects. Apparently there are ISP's that actually give you a login prompt, but work only if you start PPP, rather than logging in. Go figure. Stupid Mode is (natu- rally) disabled by default. [...]
Is BSNL one of these ISPs? i.e. It shows the username/password prompts, but also negotatiates PAP/CHAP if you start ppp immediately on login?
