Both the above do not implement IPSec and hence are not actually good
VPN solutions. In particular, PPTP is Microsoft proprietary protocol.
I have to agree with the OP that OpenSwan is the only Free Software
option for VPNs since it is the only one that implements IPSec VPNs.
