(I am the registrant, admin, technical and billing contact). You might be all those, but are you sure you have control over your domain? Registrar web based control panel or anything like that?
My queries are:
1. What is the rationale behind webhost1.com charging for transfer of domain?
So that you pay them as much money before you move.
2. What is the reason for the Domain Registrar to refuse transfering a domain
if its expiry date is less than 30 days when transfer request is made?
Individual registrar policies to try and retain customers.
3. What is the rationale to charge for receiving a pre-registered domain
by webhost2.com ?
Its all about money.
4. What is the meaning of having a lock on domain.com by webhost1.com ?So that false registrar transfers / changes to the domain are prevented, like it happened with panix.com recently.
5. What happens if I don't renew domain.com ? If the registration lapses,Dont remember the exact number of days, but its something like 45 days, AFAIR.
and nobody registers for it (assume) then is the domain back in the pool of available domain names ? What is the lapse period ?
6. Does anybody know of a reliable and cost-effective domain registeringPersonally, I would look for a more "reliability" than being cost effective. Easydns, while not one of the cheapest, has never given me problems. Smooth customer service, IMHO, value for money with most of their packages.
company ? (pl exclude siliconhouse.net and directi.com in your response)
If you decide to go with easydns, you can renew the domain for one year with your existing registrar and then move the domain to easydns. Whatever you pay to easydns will be *added* to your existing registration length of the domain.
I am facing some of these issues for the first time and will greatlyYMMV. Somehow, I feel that you need to go through the hooplas of the domain name process to find the "reliable and cost effective" registrar for yourself.
appreciate inputs from some of the experienced members of the group
in this regard!
Again, YMMV.

Disclaimer: I do not and have never worked for easydns and I do not sell their services either.
