I have a database program for homeopahtic medicine. It only runs on
windoze and the vendor has heard of linux but is really not sure what it
is. This program comes with a HASP key that attaches to the parallel
port.
I managed to install the program under wine but the problem is getting
the hardware lock working. I am using FC2 w/ kernel 2.6.9.
I downloaded the linux drivers for the hardware lock from the alladin
site but they are only for RH 8 & 9 and Suse. The drivers are
distributed as an rpm file and also as a bunch of aksparlnx.o files for
different kernels. The problem is that they only support kernels upto
2.4.19. There is no aksparlnx.o file for a kernel 2.6.x.
I googled but found nothing relevant. Only 8 hits came up for
_aksparlnx.o linux 2.6_ . All the hits are for a hardware problem with
an ide card.
I wrote to alladin support and they claim that kernel development is too
fast for them to give new modules everytime a new kernel comes out. They
suggested I try to force insmod with a -f flag.
Needless to say, this did not work. If I remember right, didn't kernel
modules undergo some sort of change in format for 2.6 ?
Anyway /sbin/insmod <path to module> -f or /sbin/insmod -f <path to module>
gives the error message that module is in invalid format.
modprobe gives an error saying module not found. I even tried renaming
the module to .ko from the .o but that did not work either :)
What are my options other than to use a 2.4 kernel with FC2. If I do do
that, what are the pitfalls ? I really don't want to go back to RH9.
Alternately is there a way I can run RH9 in a windows while runing FC2 ?
Is that just wishful thinking ?
thanks,
Sharukh.
