Don't know specifically about kanotix. In Debian:
$ apt-cache search laptop | grep $interesting_bits
divine - Automatic IP configuration detection for laptops
laptop-net - Automatically adapt laptop ethernet
There are at least two others whose names I cannot recall at the moment.
