I thought that it will be an off topic and that is why did not give the details. I am trying to a deploy a mission critical application in my organization using traditional LAMP environment. The OS will be RHEL 4.0. The application needs to be highly available and at least some disaster recovery feature. The loading is also envisaged to be on the higher side. I feel that there should be two web servers with load balancing and file over. The same should be there for the database also. Additionally for the database, I intend to have off-site data backup. The entire network is over high speed fiber optic and thus bandwidth should not be a constraint. My questions: 1) what should be the appropriate approach for the web servers. Do I use DNS round robin feature to somehow distribute the load and then use MON/HEARTBEAT for the failover? Or some better approaches are there? 2) Similarly what should be done for the database? Do I use two database boxes forming a cluster? Does this give me automatic failover? Can I configure the remote server as the replication slave of the cluster and achieve offsite data backup?
